Cheddar cheese can be eaten simply as it is, on a slice of crusty bread or as part of a cheese platter. Chutneys such as caramelised onion and mango are a delicious combination. As are walnuts, grapes and apples.
It also melts very well and is therefore perfect for grating or slicing on pasta dishes, hamburgers, hot sandwiches, nachos and pizza. It can be used as a base for cheese and white sauces (on carbonara pasta, for example, or lasagne).
To drink, white wines such as Chardonnay or White Burgundy and red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir compliment it well.
